Station deployment plan

*Budget

Barbara Bogaert (standing in for Harley Benz) gave a summary of the Alaska ANSS budget as it stands now.

Currently we have requested $5k per reference site.  Twelve stations are scheduled to be deployed this year, making the total budget $60k for Alaska.  Barbara explained that this budget includes only station hardware and telemetry.
There will be a separate computer hardware budget, which should amount to approximately $10-15k per region.
Travel expenses for all persons involved in deployment will be covered under a separate budget.
Next year's budget should will include money for building sites, on-going telemetry, and labor costs.

Because not all of the stations deployed this year will be deployed at new sites, there will be some money left over.  It is possible to utilize this for computer hardware, communications, etc.

Niren Biswas and Roger Hansen will provide Barbara with detailed deployment and telemetry budgets ASAP, so that they can be approved by Harley.  As it stands now, money will be sent to University of Alaska Fairbanks and put in an ANSS account, so that persons there can charge to that.  All federal employees will charge directly to ANSS.

*Telemetry

The fact that station deployment is scheduled to begin shortly and telemetry issues have not been completely resolved, concerns a few members.  However, it was noted that only three of the stations being deployed will go into new sites that have no existing telemetry [*correction* - actually at least 9 of the NSMP sites have also no telemetry/phone line connections in addition to the 3 new sites lacking connectivity].  The rest will go into sites that do currently have dial-in capabilities.  It is most realistic to get all stations deployed and functional this year, and worry about telemetry upgrades at a later date.

A telemetry/data processing/shake map workshop has been scheduled for June 25-26 in Anchorage.  Kent Lindquist will be in charge of creating an agenda and organizing the details of the workshop.

*Deployment

Station deployment is scheduled for June 11-21.

Arnie will be in Anchorage assisting Niren for all station installations/upgrades.  Kent would like to be present for at least one installation/upgrade.

Pre-deployment needs

*The Regional Working Group would like to see a final station location map from Niren before deployment begins.

*Tom Murray requested that copies of the permits be sent to him for safe-keeping.  Roger Hansen also requested that copies of the permits be sent to the Geophysical Institute Operations Office manager, if possible.

*A finalized budget needs to be sent to Barbara ASAP.

Next meeting
