ALASKA EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION CENTER
MONTHLY SEISMICITY REPORT
SEPTEMBER 2008

During September 2008, the Alaska Earthquake Information Center located 2072
 earthquakes within the state.  Of these, one was larger than or equal to magnitude
 5.0 and seven were larger than or equal to magnitude 4.0. Eight events were felt.
 The largest earthquake located in Alaska this month was  a moderate earthquake of
 magnitude 5.2 that occurred on Sunday, September 14 at 09:41 p.m. AKDT, 89
 miles SW of Adak.
 The following is a list of significant earthquakes during the time period: September 01 to September 30, 2008:  

 September 15 at 05:41:44.090 UTC (September 14, 21:41:44.090 AKDT), Ml 5.2, 51.01N -178.20W, depth=26.2 km:
   A moderate earthquake was located in ANDREANOF ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN IS..
    This earthquake was:
	    89 miles (144 km)  SW of Adak
	   126 miles (203 km) ESE of Amchitka
	   190 miles (306 km) WSW of Atka

 September 26 at 10:23:41.281 UTC (September 26, 02:23:41.281 AKDT), Ml 4.7, 51.65N -175.19W, depth=32.7 km:
   A light earthquake was located in ANDREANOF ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN IS..
    This earthquake was:
	    56 miles ( 91 km)  SW of Atka
	    65 miles (104 km) ESE of Adak
	   144 miles (232 km) WSW of Amukta Pass

 September 18 at 19:43:53.069 UTC (September 18, 11:43:53.069 AKDT), Ml 4.7, 59.50N -152.79W, depth=90.2 km:
   A light earthquake was located in SOUTHERN ALASKA. It was felt in the Cook Inlet
region of Alaska. No reports of damage were received.
    This earthquake was:
	    32 miles ( 52 km) WNW of Nanwalek
	    32 miles ( 52 km) WNW of English Bay
	    36 miles ( 57 km) WNW of Port Graham

   A light earthquake was located in ANDREANOF ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN IS..
    This earthquake was:
	    94 miles (151 km) ESE of Amchitka
	   112 miles (180 km) WSW of Adak
	   217 miles (348 km) WSW of Atka

 September  5 at 18:48:44.621 UTC (September  5, 10:48:44.621 AKDT), Ml 4.5, 53.02N 172.28W, depth=17.3 km:
   A light earthquake was located in NEAR ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN ISLANDS.
    This earthquake was:
	    40 miles ( 65 km)   W of Attu
	    80 miles (129 km) WNW of Shemya
	   160 miles (257 km) WNW of Buldir Is

 September 24 at 12:19:52.928 UTC (September 24, 04:19:52.928 AKDT), Ml 4.3, 63.44N -150.06W, depth=6.6 km:
   A light earthquake was located in CENTRAL ALASKA. It was felt in Fairbanks and Healy.
No reports of damage were received.
    This earthquake was:
	    28 miles ( 45 km) ESE of Kantishna
	    35 miles ( 56 km)   W of Cantwell
	    37 miles ( 59 km) WSW of Denali Park

   A light earthquake was located in FOX ISLANDS, ALEUTIAN ISLANDS.
    This earthquake was:
	    57 miles ( 92 km)   S of Unalaska
	    59 miles ( 94 km)   S of Dutch Harbor
	    84 miles (136 km) SSW of Akutan

 September 25 at 19:34:09.042 UTC (September 25, 11:34:09.042 AKDT), Ml 4.1, 63.86N -148.80W, depth=10.0 km:
   A light earthquake was located in CENTRAL ALASKA. It was felt in Healy, Denali Park,
Cantwell, Nenana and Fairbanks. No reports of damame were received.
    This earthquake was:
	     5 miles (  8 km)   E of Healy
	    21 miles ( 35 km)   N of Denali Park
	    33 miles ( 53 km)   N of Cantwell
