On April 1, 2003 at 9:39 p.m. AKST, Interior Alaska residents were shaken by a M5.0 earthquake that occurred 16 miles SSE of Rampart at a depth of 10 miles (16 km). Although this earthquake was felt strongly throughout the area, no reports of any damage were received. Eight minutes after the main event, a M4.3 aftershock occurred in the same location. This earthquake was also felt strongly throughout Interior Alaska. Did you feel these earthquakes? Tell us about it.

As of 20:00:00 UTC, 04/02/2003 (11:00 a.m. AKST, 04/02/2003), the Alaska Earthquake Information Center has automatically located 6 aftershocks, all M2.0 or less.
The largest recorded earthquake in the Rampart seismic zone was a Ml 6.8 (mb 6.0, Ms 6.5) event that occurred on October 29, 1968. See a map of Interior seismicity.
